Mining Equipment Repair & Rebuilding
Mining equipment works in one of the most punishing industrial environments imaginable.
Extreme loads. Abrasive material. Constant vibration. Impact. Moisture. Dirt. Continuous operation.
Eventually, even the heaviest equipment wears.
Electric Machine & Fab provides heavy mining equipment repair and rebuilding services for underground and surface mining operations, combining industrial machining, heavy fabrication, welding, component restoration, replacement part manufacturing, and engineering capabilities within one organization.
From longwall mining components and underground machinery to heavy buckets, scoops, structural assemblies, and worn equipment components, EMF has the shop capabilities and industrial experience required to take on substantial mining repair projects.
With facilities in Williamson, West Virginia, and Sidney, Kentucky, we're positioned directly within the Appalachian mining region while serving customers throughout the United States.
Built Around the Mining Industry
Mining isn't simply another industry on EMF's list.
It's a major part of who we are.
Electric Machine & Fab operates in the heart of the Appalachian coal fields, where our team has spent years supporting equipment and components used in demanding mining operations.
That experience matters.
Mining equipment doesn't fail like ordinary machinery, and repairing it often requires more than replacing a damaged part.
Components may arrive cracked, worn down, distorted, heavily abraded, or missing substantial amounts of material.
EMF has the capabilities to evaluate the damage and determine how the component can be repaired, rebuilt, reinforced, machined, resurfaced, or reproduced.
Complete Mining Equipment Rebuilding Capabilities
A major mining equipment rebuild can involve multiple repair disciplines.
That's exactly where EMF's broad capabilities become valuable.
Depending on the equipment and condition, our mining repair and rebuilding services can include:
- Equipment inspection and evaluation
- Complete or partial disassembly
- Structural repair
- Heavy industrial welding
- Crack and damage repair
- Worn material removal
- Resurfacing and rebuilding worn areas
- Heavy steel fabrication
- Replacement section fabrication
- Component reinforcement
- Industrial machining
- Shaft, pin and bore restoration
- Replacement component manufacturing
- Wear component replacement
- Wear-resistant material installation
- Equipment modifications
- Reverse engineering
- Assembly and fit-up
- Industrial finishing and painting
Instead of coordinating several specialty shops, mining customers can bring complex repair projects to one industrial team capable of managing multiple stages of the rebuild.
Longwall Mining Component Repair & Rebuilding
Longwall mining systems operate under extraordinary mechanical loads and demanding underground conditions.
The components used throughout a longwall operation are exposed to continuous wear, tremendous force, abrasive material, vibration, and impact.
EMF provides repair and rebuilding capabilities for longwall mining components and related equipment, helping mining operations restore worn or damaged components rather than automatically replacing them.
Depending on the component, repairs may involve:
- Heavy welding
- Structural restoration
- Wear-area rebuilding
- Resurfacing
- Machining
- Bore and fit restoration
- Replacement steel sections
- Component reinforcement
- Custom-fabricated replacement parts
- Wear-resistant materials
- Finishing and painting
Our combination of heavy fabrication and industrial machining is particularly valuable when a longwall component requires both structural restoration and precision mechanical work.
Underground Mining Equipment Repair
Underground mining equipment operates where reliability is critical and conditions are severe.
Restricted environments, abrasive coal and rock, moisture, impact, and demanding production schedules place constant stress on machinery and components.
EMF supports the repair and rebuilding of underground mining equipment and heavy components, including projects involving:
- Longwall mining components
- Material handling equipment
- Haulage equipment components
- Scoops and related components
- Structural equipment components
- Frames and assemblies
- Wear components
- Shafts and pins
- Bores and mounting points
- Heavy fabricated components
- Custom replacement parts
Whether the problem is structural, mechanical, or a combination of both, EMF can bring multiple repair capabilities together to develop a practical solution.
Surface Mining & Heavy Equipment Components
The same capabilities that support underground mining also extend to surface mining equipment and other heavy machinery.
Large equipment components are exposed to severe abrasion, impact, and heavy loading.
Buckets, scoops, structural components, and other assemblies can gradually lose material or sustain significant damage during service.
Complete replacement isn't always the only option.
EMF can evaluate worn components and, where practical, remove damaged material, rebuild worn sections, fabricate replacement areas, weld and reinforce the structure, restore critical machined features, and finish the component for return to service.
Buckets, Scoops & Heavy Wear Components
A worn bucket or scoop can look like it has reached the end of its life.
That isn't always the case.
Heavy steel components can often be rebuilt through a carefully planned combination of material replacement, welding, resurfacing, reinforcement, machining, and wear protection.
EMF can restore substantial equipment components by rebuilding the areas that take the greatest punishment.
Depending on the application, this may include:
- Removing severely worn material
- Rebuilding structural sections
- Installing replacement steel
- Restoring worn edges and surfaces
- Reinforcing high-stress areas
- Installing wear-resistant materials
- Restoring pins, bores, and mounting points
- Machining critical surfaces
- Final finishing and industrial painting
The goal is straightforward:
Take a worn industrial component and put it back to work.
Heavy Welding & Fabrication for Mining Equipment
Mining equipment repair frequently starts with heavy fabrication.
Cracked structures, worn steel, distorted sections, and missing material require more than a simple weld repair.
EMF's fabrication team can remove damaged sections, fit replacement material, rebuild structural areas, reinforce components, and fabricate new sections when required.
Because we routinely work with heavy industrial equipment, our fabrication capabilities are geared toward substantial components and demanding applications.

Industrial Machining for Mining Equipment
After the structural work is finished, critical mechanical features still have to fit and function correctly.
That's where EMF's machining capabilities become essential.
Our industrial machine shop can support mining rebuilds involving:
- Pins
- Shafts
- Bushings
- Bores
- Bearing surfaces
- Journals
- Mounting points
- Replacement components
- Custom machined parts
- Fabricated-and-machined assemblies
Machining and fabrication working together allows EMF to address both the structural and mechanical sides of a mining equipment rebuild.

Large-Format CNC Plate Cutting for Mining Components
Heavy mining equipment requires heavy material.
At our Sidney, Kentucky facility, EMF operates a large-format Messer CNC cutting system with a 10-foot by 30-foot cutting table.
For appropriate materials and applications, our plate-processing capabilities extend into the 8- to 10-inch thickness range.
That gives EMF the ability to process substantial steel plate for heavy equipment repairs, replacement sections, wear components, custom mining parts, and fabricated assemblies.
And because the cutting system operates alongside our fabrication and machining capabilities, the plate can continue through the manufacturing process within EMF.

Replacement Mining Equipment Parts
Mining operations often depend on machinery that has been working for many years.
Eventually, finding replacement components can become as difficult as repairing the equipment itself.
Parts may be:
- Obsolete
- Discontinued
- Difficult to source
- Subject to excessive lead times
- Available only as part of a larger assembly
When appropriate, EMF can use machining, fabrication, plate cutting, and reverse engineering to help reproduce difficult-to-source industrial components.
If an existing part or sufficient technical information is available, our team can evaluate options for repairing or manufacturing a replacement.

Reverse Engineering for Obsolete Mining Components
Sometimes the most useful drawing for an old piece of mining equipment is the part sitting on the shop floor.
EMF can evaluate existing components and available technical information to help develop repair or replacement solutions.
Reverse engineering can be especially valuable for older mining machinery, specialized equipment, modified systems, and components no longer supported by the original manufacturer.
Once the component requirements are established, EMF can bring in the necessary combination of plate cutting, fabrication, welding, and machining to produce the finished part.

From Worn-Out to Ready for Work
One of the biggest advantages of working with EMF is our ability to manage the entire repair process.
A heavily worn mining component can enter the shop requiring several different operations.
EMF can coordinate the work through:
Inspection → Disassembly → Structural Repair → Heavy Welding → Fabrication → Machining → Replacement Components → Assembly → Finishing
That reduces handoffs between vendors and keeps multiple phases of the project under one organization.
For a complicated equipment rebuild, that can make a significant difference.
