Industrial Services for the Mining Industry
Mining equipment doesn't get an easy shift.
It operates under extreme loads, constant vibration, impact, abrasive material, moisture, contamination, and demanding production schedules where downtime can become expensive very quickly.
Electric Machine & Fab provides the heavy industrial repair, rebuilding, machining, fabrication, welding, electric motor, and custom manufacturing capabilities required to support demanding mining operations.
Located in the heart of the Appalachian mining region, EMF has deep experience supporting equipment used throughout the mining industry.
From longwall mining components and underground equipment to heavy electric motors, buckets, scoops, shafts, structural assemblies, and obsolete replacement parts, our two facilities give mining customers access to a broad combination of industrial capabilities under one company.
When mining equipment takes a beating, EMF helps put it back to work.
Built in the Heart of Mining Country
Mining isn't a secondary market for Electric Machine & Fab.
It's part of the foundation of the company.
With facilities in Williamson, West Virginia, and Sidney, Kentucky, EMF operates directly within one of America's historic coal-producing regions.
That location has given our team extensive exposure to the realities of mining equipment repair.
These aren't light-duty machines operating in clean environments.
Mining machinery is expected to perform under conditions that create severe abrasion, structural wear, mechanical stress, impact damage, and electrical and electromechanical challenges.
EMF has developed capabilities around solving those kinds of problems.
Underground Mining Equipment
Underground mining places extraordinary demands on machinery and the components that keep production moving.
Equipment operates in confined, demanding environments where reliability is critical and component failure can affect far more than a single machine.
EMF supports underground mining operations with capabilities for:
- Longwall mining components
- Underground equipment components
- Material handling equipment
- Scoops and related components
- Heavy structural assemblies
- Shafts and pins
- Worn bores and mounting points
- Wear components
- Large industrial electric motors
- Mechanically driven equipment
- Custom replacement parts
- Obsolete components
Depending on the project, EMF can combine machining, heavy welding, fabrication, component rebuilding, motor repair, and replacement-part manufacturing to develop a practical repair solution.
Longwall Mining Component Repair & Rebuilding
Longwall mining equipment operates under tremendous loads and continuous exposure to abrasive material.
That punishment eventually shows up in the components.
Steel wears away.
Surfaces deteriorate.
Structural areas become damaged.

Surface Mining & Heavy Equipment
Our mining capabilities aren't limited to underground operations.
Surface mining and related heavy equipment applications create many of the same repair challenges on an even larger physical scale.
Buckets, heavy components, frames, wear structures, material handling equipment, and other substantial assemblies can experience severe abrasion, impact, structural damage, and mechanical wear.
When practical, EMF can repair and rebuild these components instead of automatically replacing them.
That can involve removing damaged material, replacing steel sections, rebuilding worn surfaces, restoring mechanical features, machining critical areas, and finishing the component for return to service.

EMF's industrial machining and CNC machining capabilities support both equipment rebuilding and new replacement-component manufacturing.
Our machining capabilities can support projects involving:
- Shafts
- Pins
- Bushings
- Bores
- Journals
- Housings
- Bearing fits
- Mounting components

Large Industrial Electric Motor Repair for Mining
Mining operations depend on large electric motors throughout critical systems and equipment.
When one of those motors fails, production can suffer.
EMF provides industrial electric motor repair and rebuilding for large motors used in demanding applications.
Our capabilities can address both electrical and mechanical aspects of the repair, including projects requiring machining of shafts, bearing fits, journals, housings, and related components.
The combination of electric motor repair and industrial machining is a major part of EMF's capabilities at our Williamson facility.

Electromechanical & Power Transmission Repair
A mining operation depends on more than the motor itself.
Power has to move through shafts, couplings, bearings, mechanical connections, and other drive components before it can perform useful work.
EMF provides electromechanical and power transmission repair capabilities supported by industrial machining and mechanical component restoration.
When a repair crosses the line between electrical and mechanical work, our ability to address both sides of the equipment can become particularly valuable.

Large-Format CNC Plate Cutting for Mining
Mining equipment is built from serious steel.
At EMF's Sidney, Kentucky facility, we operate a large-format Messer CNC cutting system with a 10-foot by 30-foot cutting table.
For appropriate materials and applications, EMF can process heavy plate in the 8- to 10-inch thickness range.
That gives our team substantial plate-processing capacity for:
- Mining equipment components
- Heavy wear plates
- Replacement structural sections
- Equipment repair pieces
- Fabrication blanks
- Custom mining components
- Heavy equipment parts
- Large fabricated assemblies
And we don't have to stop after the material is cut.
The component can continue through fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, and finishing within EMF.

Mining Equipment Replacement Parts
One unavailable component can sideline an otherwise productive piece of mining equipment.
This becomes increasingly common as machinery ages.
Parts become obsolete.
OEMs discontinue components.
Lead times grow.
Equipment changes hands.
Documentation disappears.
EMF can use industrial machining, fabrication, CNC plate cutting, and reverse engineering to help manufacture replacement components when appropriate.
If you have the drawing, send it.
If you have the old part, bring it.
If the original manufacturer doesn't make it anymore, let's see whether EMF can.

Reverse Engineering for Obsolete Mining Components
Mining equipment can remain in service for decades, which means the machine may outlive the documentation and parts network that originally supported it.
Reverse engineering can provide another path.
EMF can evaluate existing components, available drawings, measurements, specifications, and technical information to help determine the requirements for a repair or replacement.
The resulting component can then move into machining, plate cutting, fabrication, or welding as required.
This combination of reverse engineering and actual manufacturing capability allows EMF to move from figuring out the problem to physically building the solution.

Mining Equipment Retrofitting & Modernization
Older mining equipment doesn't necessarily need to remain frozen in its original configuration.
A discontinued component may need to be replaced with a modern alternative.
Mounting arrangements may need to change.
Structural sections may require reinforcement.
A new motor or mechanical component may require custom adapters or modifications.
EMF can combine engineering, machining, fabrication, and electromechanical capabilities to support mining equipment modifications and modernization projects.
The objective is simple:
Keep productive equipment productive.

From Worn-Out to Back Underground
A major mining equipment repair can require several completely different industrial disciplines.
That's where EMF's breadth matters.
A project can move through:
Inspection → Disassembly → Damage Removal → Plate Cutting → Fabrication → Heavy Welding → Machining → Replacement Parts → Assembly → Finishing
Instead of managing a welding shop, machine shop, fabrication company, engineering resource, and parts manufacturer separately, mining customers can bring more of the project under one organization.
One company. Multiple capabilities. One objective: get the equipment back to work.
